In Katie Couric's slow demise, there isn't too much more to write. The one idea that no one will like is to expand evening news to an hour. That way she can do her thing, CBS' prestige will rise, and maybe the FCC will enforce some of those education and public service rules. However there's a lot of money in syndication deals that would have to be rewritten. That and maybe a Web broadcast where Katie can be Katie would be the things to save her. Regular broadcast TV news is in trouble and it needs to be rethought for the long-term. Not over months or years, but in terms of decades. What's CBS.com doing? Why not have an hour long Katie Couric news broadcast? they tried a little bit when they tried to redo ABC news, but I don't think they are pushing far enough fast enough.
