This is retarded. I'm not sure why the Left is so vitriolic toward the DLC. What did the DLC do to the liberal wing of the party that so offends them? Why do they so demonize the DLC?

Labor's Big Split: Pain Before Gain
The union's decline is based on their inability to change. If you look at union demands, it's all about me-too and other places have this, so why don't we clauses. It's not about what's best for the workforce, but what's best for the senior workers. Not that that's wrong, but but it is only one way to look at the equation. What about merit? Or the best worker? Those fields that have those type of workers, don't want to unionize. Or maybe they haven't been impressed with what the union can do for them.

WSJ.com - Out of Gas
Alternative fuels are ok for long-run looks, but the best thing that we can do is increase fuel efficiency. The one thing that I would have liked to see on this list, is the fuel that they use in Brazil. I believe it's alcohol based, but the point is that it's based on fuels that Americans can grow, versus oil that we have to import.

The Green Machine That Could Be Detroit - New York Times
I thought I had this idea :) The big problem with the is that the union contracts make it impossible to retool like the author suggests. It'd be a great idea and I love it though. GM already has a good conduit in Saturn, but just doesn't use it well.

China Unpegs Itself - New York Times
I'm not a huge Krugman fan, but he does make a good point here about the possible future of real US interest rates. I hope this doesn't kill the US economy too, but then again better now than delaying a worse future.

China Says It Will No Longer Peg Its Currency to the U.S. Dollar - New York Times
Hello higher interest rates? I think so, not as much reason to buy so many US T-bills. Less $$ in the system so the cost of money will go up. Although I wonder if this means some sort of increase in domestic Chinese spending.

Bush Says He'll Fire Any Aide Who 'Committed a Crime' - New York Times
Sounds like he's changing his story. I thought it was anyone who leaked would be fired, now it's only for criminals .... Harry Reid was right to call him a liar.

WSJ.com - In Latin America, Rich-Poor Chasm Stifles Growth:
"Mexico's government budget relies heavily on sales taxes, which dun the poor proportionately more than the rich, and less on income taxes, which many rich avoid in any event. Mexico also doesn't charge capital-gains taxes or inheritance taxes. "
Although alarmist, the inheritence tax does do good things, plus it's a small way to pay back the country for what you have received.

The Oil Uproar That Isn't - New York Times
Puff piece wanting to be an in-depth report. It looks pretty shoddy, especially the industry stuff. No mention of the absence of any oil supply audit in Saudi Arabia. No mention of how critical the Saudi supplies. Also no mention about alternative that are coming up, just that they were too expensive.
The headline is the truest statement in the whole piece.

Frog-Marching Time for Rove?
Things overlooked on this Rove stuff ....
Was Judith Miller's WMD stuff fed to her by Rove? If so, is getting info from the Prez's political czar (versus someone in intelligence or the Pentagon) a good idea?
Where the hell is Bob "Prince of the thinning color" Novak? He has turned invisible. Was the Rove source for the Plame leak? What did Novak know?
Just a couple of questions ...

Media Notes Extra
London ... Very sad and upsetting. I couldn't believe that Kudlow in CNBC was claiming that this makes the terrorists look weak. If you looked at those faces on TV, they sure looked terrorized. Strategically, I'm not sure that it makes them look that weak. During the G8 summit in the same nation, it does seem like a strong move.
TV News ... The morning of the attacks here were difficult to watch. It seemed to me that they kept asking the experts to speculate on who had done what. No coverage of where the facts; no info on where, when, etc. I got better coverage from the Web.
Novak/Miller ... Novak must have spoke to the Prosecutor in order to stay free. He's totally slimy and has no ethics other than making himself more powerful and wealthy. Read the Washington Monthly profile on his "ethics free zone." Miller needs to smarten up and live by the code that if the sources lie, they don't deserve to be protected. Who lied to her about WMD? Why are they still anonomous?

Return of the Angry Man
Great profile on Dean. He is a conundrum and defies easy labels that we try to put on him. His biggest problem is delivery. The "red meat" that he wants to give his folks is not nuanced enough for the masses. Look at Bush's speeches ... He might be the worst speaking Prez since his dad. However he does punch the right buttons for his targeted audiences while at the same time, his words are "acceptable" to mainstream. Dean on the other hand smashes things out of the park with Home Run declarations. Nothing wrong with ripping a crook like Delay, but do it better. Then again who's listening? Do people outside the Beltway care?

Counties convention in Hawaii plagued by cancellations - 2005-06-16
I'm sure the Cook County contingent is still going after all the press. Not enough heat.
